4th Salisbury (Harnham) Expedition Challenge
26th October 2014
Nine members of the 4th Salisbury (Harnham) Scout Troop, assisted by two Leaders, recently went on a two day hike for the Expedition Challenge as part of the Chief Scout Gold Award.
They hiked 12 miles from 10:30 on Saturday from Ibsley Bridge to Downton and another 8 miles from Downton back to Harnham Scout Hall on the Sunday, arriving at about 16:00.
The Scouts carried full kit including tents, cooking stoves, rations, sleeping bags and all their normal hiking gear. The expedition camped at Downton Scout Hall on the Saturday.
The hike mainly followed the Avon Valley Path but had a number of unplanned detours!! This was due to horses in fields and the odd navigational error.
After the two days of hiking the Scouts were pleased to get home and take their boots off, have a warm bath and eat ‘real’ food which didn’t come in ration packs.
