Grose Trophy has a New Home

Sunday 12th October saw Scouts and Explorers from Salisbury & South Wilts District Scouts descend upon Downton for the Annual Grose Trophy Event. The Trophy was presented to the District in 1929 by Lt Col D.C.E Grose for outdoor troop competitions. The competition has been held every year since 1930.
A total of 100 people attended the event of which 25 were adult volunteers and 85 Scouts and Explorer Scouts.
Each troop had to put their map reading skills to the test by navigating a route from Downton Scout hut to the Chalk Pit and back. At regular intervals each troop were awarded points for completing challenges. The challenges, of which there were 18 in total, included fire lighting, pioneering and putting up tents.
A fantastic day was had by all and 1st Laverstock Scout Group went home with the wining Trophy.
