2nd Salisbury Scouts have been presented with Mencap’s prestigious Betty Williams award. The Award was presented at Mencap’s Annual General Meeting. Betty Williams was the first Manager of the Mencap shop on Catherine Street when it first opened its doors in 1983 where she continued as Manager for 20 years. The award is given in her memory and was granted this year to 2nd Salisbury Scout Group in recognition of the Groups outstanding contribution for people with learning disabilities. The presentation was made by Mrs Betty Vine, Betty Williams’ daughter and accepted, on behalf of 2nd Salisbury Scout Group by Sandy Yeates, the Group Scout Leader. The Scout Group is one of only 3 in the country to welcome young people with learning disabilities. Started nearly 30 years ago the Scout Group was set up to enable children with a learning disability to enjoy all that scouting offers. Then it was known as scout link.
